PWCS News

Welcome to Lake Ridge Elementary School!
Lake Ridge Elementary School is a fully accredited school of 660 students in grades K-5. We're a 14-time Prince William County School of Excellence awardee. We are proud of our French Program and we love our students!

Students Interview Author Online
Mrs. Causey's class ended the year with a wonderful author interview. Students had read the book, "Best Friends", written by Mrs. Causey's great-aunt.  Using Lync and webcams, the students and the author were able to discuss the book and see each other online. Students had thoughtful questions to ask.  It was an awesome experience!

School Supply Lists
We hope all of our students and parents are enjoying the summer.  Here are the supply lists for the 2015-16 school year.  All grade levels are included in the one list for convenience.  See you in August!
Meteorologist's Visit
Meteorologist Amelia Segal from NBC Channel 4 came to LRES to talk with our second graders. They discussed types of severe weather, weather prediction tools, and how forecasts are put together for live shows.  Click here to see a video Ms. Segal took of Mrs. Goff's students singing about the water cycle.

Kindergarten Registration
Students who will be at least five years old by September 30 are eligible for enrollment in Kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year.  Information on where to get needed immunizations is available on the Prince William County Schools Kindergarten Registration webpage For more information, including required forms or to make a registration appointment, please see the LRES Office Staff webpage, or call Mrs. Deb Neal, LRES Registrar, at 703.494.9153.
Lake Ridge Lions Learn Coding
All LRES 5th grade classes and students from some classes in grades 2-4 participated in the international initiative, Hour of Code.  This event introduces students to computer programming using familiar characters to move through mazes towards a goal.  Our students enjoyed working together to solve these challenges and others.
LRES is a School of Excellence!
We are proud to announce that we have been named a PWCS School of Excellence!  This is our fourteenth year and we continue to work to ensure that we will be making it a fifteenth time.  We'd like to congratulate all of our students and thank our staff, PTO, parents and supportive community for working together to support student learning.
Family Science Night
At our Family Science Night, students and parents enjoyed a number of fun and interesting hands-on science activities which were provided by the Children's Science Center. We'd like to thank Mrs. Mangum for coordinating this special event, volunteers for their hard work, and our wonderful LRES students who love to learn about science.
Superhero Fun Run a Big Success!
LRES students, parents, and staff members joined together for a beautiful autumn day of fitness and fun.   The Superhero Fun Run was part of the PTO Fall Fundraiser, which raised money to support programs at LRES.  We'd like to thank the many volunteers who helped with the planning, fundraising, and running of this successful event!
