Chinese New Year Celebration
Mrs. Goff's second grade students were in for a special treat today when Mrs. Bahm, a wonderful LRES parent, came into their class today to teach them about the Chinese New Year.  Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese students celebrate this holiday, too.  Students made red lanterns, to symbolize good luck. Thank you, Mrs. Bahm, for helping our students learn about this fascinating holiday!
Concerns Regarding Arrival and Dismissal on Hedges Run Drive
As many of you know, arrival and dismissal of students on Hedges Run Drive has been a concern for the staff and many parents for years.  We continue to feel that it is very dangerous for children and parents to be crossing the street outside of the crosswalks, where they are under the watchful eye of the crossing guard.  There have been numerous U-Turns and near hits of cars, buses, and students due to the unsafe driving practices that continue to occur.   We ask all drivers to please be cautious and careful when driving down Hedges Run Drive.  As always student safety is a top priority, so we ask that you please stop making U-Turns and walking the children across the busy street during arrival and dismissal times.  We appreciate your assistance in keeping our community safe.
Lake Ridge Lions Learn Coding
All LRES 5th grade classes and students from some classes in grades 2-4 participated in the international initiative, Hour of Code.  This event introduces students to computer programming using familiar characters to move through mazes towards a goal.  Our students enjoyed working together to solve these challenges and others.
LRES is a School of Excellence!
We are proud to announce that we have been named a PWCS School of Excellence!  This is our fourteenth year and we continue to work to ensure that we will be making it a fifteenth time.  We'd like to congratulate all of our students and thank our staff, PTO, parents and supportive community for working together to support student learning.
Family Science Night
At our Family Science Night, students and parents enjoyed a number of fun and interesting hands-on science activities which were provided by the Children's Science Center. We'd like to thank Mrs. Mangum for coordinating this special event, volunteers for their hard work, and our wonderful LRES students who love to learn about science.
Superhero Fun Run a Big Success!
LRES students, parents, and staff members joined together for a beautiful autumn day of fitness and fun.   The Superhero Fun Run was part of the PTO Fall Fundraiser, which raised money to support programs at LRES.  We'd like to thank the many volunteers who helped with the planning, fundraising, and running of this successful event!

School Hours 8:45 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
Please recall that Prince William County increased the school day by 10 minutes last year to ensure that Prince William County Schools would meet the state requirement of a minimum of 990 instructional hours. Therefore, the school day is six hours and 40 minutes. At Lake Ridge ES, students will be marked tardy after 8:45 a.m. and dismissal begins at 3:25 p.m.
Thank You, PTO!
LRES students and staff would like to thank our PTO for their hard work on behalf of our students. This year our PTO bought 30 iPads, an iPad cart, and many other resources for LRES.   To see students using the iPads, click the Technology button at the left, then Technology Users.  Thank you, PTO, for this and for the many wonderful things you've done for our school!
